About the band

Following a friendly ‘jam’ session19 years ago, Electra Gold was formed. The title Electra” is for Elaine and “Gold” is for Gloria. These two music lovers met at a local legion hall when Elaine was performing as a solo act. Gloria stopped into the lounge and spoke with Elaine and immediately these two ladies hit it right off. Elaine asked Gloria to perform a couple of numbers and EG was born. Combining Elaine’s smooth contralto tones with Gloria’s ‘belting’ sopranic voice has proven to be the perfect combination for the rich smooth sound these two industrious ladies have developed.

At the age of 16 Gloria performed with Eddy Melanson & the Rockabillies. Every Saturday you would find Gloria seated at the piano playing with the band, or singing the well known Brenda Lee’s “I’m Sorry”, or the raucous “Lucille” by Little Richard. The Rockabillies performed all over Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and had a radio program in Bridgewater for 2 years. When the boys in the band planned a trip to Nashville to sing on the Grand Ole Opry, Gloria was unable to attend due to illness. A trip she has regretted, as she was looking forward to meeting Patsy Cline. She remained with the band for 3 years until the band split up.

Elaine also did a time with Joe Botante’s band singing in local legions and night clubs. She also was a solo performer for a number of years with her electronic system. Entering several singing contests, Elaine was picked as the best all round vocalist on several occasions. As well she also won a Patsy Cline sing-a-like contest.

Growing up in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, and having a passion for all types of music has given them the experience to perform music of the past to the present with ease. Pushing the envelope, and adapting to the 80’s, 90’s, and the present ‘keeps them young’ at heart. Gloria and Elaine’s rendition of ABBA’s Gimmie Gimmie Gimme and Mama Mia has more than once had them dancing in the aisles. Among some of the artists whose music they have adapted are Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Patsy Cline, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, plus numerous country and pop artists.

Although both ladies can handle musical instruments: guitar, keyboard and piano they prefer to have back up music. Using the electronic karaoke system, they are free to interact with their audiences and ’stroll’ the stage. Backed by the electronic music, their rich solos and harmonies have impressed and pleased audiences of all ages.

Gala Functions, Weddings, dances, banquets, private parties and children’s gigs make up the list of their performances. Add to that fund-raisers and their biggest love- performing for the seniors and shut-ins at Maplestone Nursing Home 5 times per year keeps these ladies in tune.

EG will be performing at TOPS Area Recognition Days in Moncton,NB, April 20 and 21, and in Fredericton, NB, May 4 & 5.
